Andermatt and GreenSecure announce collaboration for sustainable tree and vine products in UK market

Andermatt UK and GreenSecure are excited to announce a collaboration for the UK market. This relationship will see Andermatt become the exclusive partner for GreenSecure’s biodegradable tree protectors and binding tube for both the horticultural and Home & Garden retail markets in the UK.

Across all industries there is a drive to search for more stainable ways to grow and maintain plants. From saplings to fully grown trees, all aspects of plant husbandry are being looked at to identify more environmentally sustainable practices.

Plastic tree protectors made from petroleum have long been used to protect early growth and improve transplant success rates. GreenSecure’s biodegradable tree protectors however offer a more sustainable solution to this already common practice. With similar in-life properties and benefits to commonly used petro-plastic tree protectors, only with the more sustainable production from corn plants and post-use life degradation to water and carbon dioxide.

Binding tubes are a common feature of any situation where a tree, hedge or vine is required to be tied to a supporting stake or structure. Traditionally plastic ties made from fossil fuels have been used because of the sought after characteristics of being weatherproof, rot resistant and UV-light tolerant all giving the longevity to remain in place or many years fixing the plant to its support as it grows. As a first of its kind, GreenSecure have taken their plant-derived PLA technology and used it to create a fossil fuel free binding tube. The biodegradable binding tube retains all of the characteristics of plastic binding tube to give equivalent performance, with the sustainability benefit of being made from plant material and degrading in soil after use

With both GreenSecure’s tree protectors and binding tube made from PLA (polylactic acid) derived from maize plants, both products compliment Andermatt’s existing plastic free range which includes both a frost fleece (BioFleece®) and insect netting (InsectoNet®).

“We are excited to be working with GreenSecure to bring their tree protectors and binding tube products to the UK market” says Dr Andrew Brown, Managing Director of Andermatt UK. “Both Andermatt and GreenSecure share the same belief in finding solutions to help those across industries from horticulture to landscape management, forestry to viticulture to grow more sustainably.”
