How to Use
How to Use
Suitable for use in any location where monitoring for crop where Oak Processionary Moth (OPM, Thaumetopoea processionea) is potentially present.
The trap is designed to monitor adult moth activity which then allows identification for the presence of the invasive Oak Processionary Moth within a woodland area and determine if further investigation is required. The Oak Processionary Moth (OPM, Thaumetopoea processionea) monitoring trap should be setup from July until September to cover the moth flying period. Depending on the weather, peak adult flight occurs in mid-August.
The trap should be hung in the oak tree canopy 10-15 meters above the ground.
Preferably place on an oak tree in open space. If being used in a wooded area, place trap in an oak tree along tracks, walkways or other open areas. Traps should be used at a density of 1 trap per 1-2 ha. Traps should be placed no closer than every 50 meters.
Traps should be checked every 1-2 weeks and number of trapped moths recorded. NOTE: Adult may have hairs which can irritate skin therefore gloves should be worn when handling any moths collected in the trap.
Replace the lure every 6 weeks.
Do not open foil sachet until you want to use the pheromone lure. Until use, store unopened sticky inserts and pheromone lures in a cool dry location, preferably in a fridge or freezer.
Traps can be used over several years with the addition of fresh replacement pheromones
