Madex® Top receives extension to registration Press Release

Madex® Top has completed its re-registration and its use has been extended by UK authorities allowing applications to apples and pears until 2031.

Madex® Top is a biological insecticide. It contains CpGv (Cydia pomonella Granulovirus) as it insect-killing active ingredient. The baculovirus-containing biological insecticide is used by farmers to control caterpillars of the codling moth (Cydia pomonella), one of the most important pest insects of apple and pear production.

Manufactured by Andermatt, a global leader in biologicals, Madex® Top was first authorised for use in the UK in 2019. With the number of plant protection products available to growers decreasing in recent years Madex® Top has seen significant growth as apple and pear growers look for alternatives solutions to manage codling moth. Suitable for use in any apple or pear growing system, including organic, growers have been increasing their familiarity with Madex® Top on ever increasing areas of orchards.

This is really welcome news for the industry. Says Aneeta Gupta Andermatts Crop Division Manager. UK growers have embracing Biologicals for the past 3 years in their battle against codling moth control. They now have the confidence to know that Madex® Top is here to stay.

“Madex® has been widely used by apple and pear growers across Europe for many years” added Dr Andrew Brown, Managing Director of Andermatt UK, “despite the challenges that our plant protection product authorisation system diverging from the European system presents our industry, and biopesticides in particular, the Madex® Top approval extension is an important step demonstrating Andermatts commitment to British agriculture.”
