How to Use

Madex® Top should be stored in a fridge (≤5°C).

Madex® Top can be applied with standard spray equipment.

For optimum control Madex® Top needs to be applied just before egg hatch, to target caterpillars as they hatch and before they enter the fruit. Timing will depend on regional weather conditions. Models such as Rimpro can be used to help with the timings of applications.

Application in the morning or evening hours is recommended.

Madex® Top should be applied at 100 ml/ha per treatment. Spray volume should be high enough to give good crop coverage without runoff (200- 1600 L/ha depending on planting density and crop size).

Repeat application after 8 days of full sunshine or 14 days of part sunshine (where 2 partly sunny days equate to 1 day of full sunshine). Applications should cover the hatching period of codling moth. Madex® Top can be applied up to 10 times per year.

Use pesticides safely, always read the label before use.

Advantages

• Flexible biological insecticide against codling moth, can be integrated into any pest control system including synthetic chemistry, mating disruption and other biologicals.

• No recordable residue (MRL exempt).

• No Re-Entry Intervals (REI) or Harvest Intervals (HI).

• Specific to codling moth (Cydia pomonella) supporting non-target biodiversity.

Technical Documents

Regulations

It is a criminal offence to use pesticides authorised for professional use without the appropriate certificate and it is a criminal offence to purchase pesticides authorised for professional use for someone else to use if the user does not hold the relevant certificate of competence (unless the intended end user is working under supervision of a certificated person for the purposes of training).

Use plant protection products safely.

Always read the label and product information before use.

Further detail on warning symbols and phrases is included on the labels and leaflets.

Madex® Top is a biological insecticide for the control of codling moth (Cydia pomonella). The active substance of Madex® Top is a Cydia pomonella granulovirus which must be ingested by the codling moth larvae for effective control. These viruses belong to the family of insect pathogenic baculoviruses that occur naturally in Lepidopteran species. Granuloviruses are very specific and tend to have just one target organism. Granuloviruses are registered insecticides and undergo the same stringent efficacy and safety tests as traditional chemical products.

Pest

Codling moth (Cydia pomonella) is one of the most significant pests affecting pome fruits globally. It can thrive in a wide range of climates and environments. There have been reports of resistance to various chemical insecticides, making it necessary to find alternative control methods. The larvae bore into the fruits, typically entering through the blossom end, the stalk end, or where fruits touch each other. Their winding tunnels usually reach the core, often serving as entry points for secondary infections.
